Braces

Misaligned, crooked, or crowded teeth can impact your appearance and even affect your oral health.

These issues can be effectively handled with braces. When they are not, these problems can result in tooth decay, gum disease, and more.

At Premier Dental & Implant Center in Orland Park, IL, we offer various braces options at affordable rates.

Braces Can Boost Several Areas of Your Life

Dental Function

All types of misalignment can negatively impact basic, necessary daily functions like eating, speaking, brushing, and flossing.

Oral Health

Misaligned teeth are much harder to properly clean than straight teeth. This can lead to various troubling issues like cavities and gum disease

Physical Appearance

Misaligned bites can also cause noticeable damage to your teeth. Straightening your smile vastly improves aesthetics.

Self-Confidence

A straight, symmetrical smile can provide a more positive self-image and eliminate insecurities about your appearance.

We Offer Several Straightening Options

Our orthodontist, Dr. Amer Shammaa, is proud to offer several versatile orthodontic options to our patients:

Traditional Braces

Traditional braces gradually straighten teeth through the use of brackets and wires made out of metal. Bands around the molars and elastic o-rings at the front of each tooth hold the wire in place. While metal braces are highly visible, they work faster than ceramic braces and can be used for more complex cases than clear aligners.

Ceramic Braces

Ceramic braces are similar to traditional braces, but they use ceramic for the brackets instead of metal. Ceramic braces are less noticeable than traditional braces and work faster than clear aligners like Invisalign®. However, they are more costly than the traditional option and more visible than Invisalign.

Invisalign

Invisalign is an immensely popular straightening solution for patients who want discreet orthodontics treatment. Invisalign achieves results through the use of virtually invisible clear aligners. These aligners can be removed to make eating and oral hygiene easy. They also avoid bracket and wire breakage. However, Invisalign may not be able to solve complex cases.

We Have Truly Skilled Dentists Meet Orthodontist
Dr. Amer Shammaa

Orthodontist Amer Shammaa

Our Orland Park, IL, team includes five dentists who each specialize in their own area of expertise. Our orthodontist is Dr. Amer Shammaa. Many general dentists can place braces or provide Invisalign, but they do not have the years of additional orthodontics training that a true orthodontist like Dr. Shammaa underwent.

Dr. Shammaa earned a Master of Science degree in Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics from West Virginia University. He has since dedicated his career to resolving our patients' misalignment issues. In doing so, he has heightened his ability to take care of everything from minor cases to severe jaw misalignment.

Orland Park Relies On Us Reach Out to Receive Elite, Affordable Care

Did you know that at any given time, around 4 million Americans are wearing braces? And it's a common misconception that braces are only for kids. In fact, 1/3 of all orthodontics patients are 18 or older. It's easy to join the millions of happy patients who are working towards a straighter, healthier smile.

Our orthodontist, Dr. Shammaa, gets the most out of his orthodontic treatments thanks to the advanced technology that Premier Dental & Implant Center has invested in. He uses cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) imaging to obtain precise, 3D imagery of your teeth and surrounding structures. This allows him to carry out incredibly accurate treatment.

Some potential patients get the impression that an elite dental team that uses state-of-the-art technology may provide stuffy, impersonal care. That is certainly not the case. Patients love our dentists and staff because of our family-friendly environment and easygoing demeanors. Plus, we offer free consultations for orthodontics. Reach out to receive yours.

The Path to a Straighter Smile

Your braces treatment will take place over several months–typically, an average of 18 to 24 months.

Spacer Appointment

If your teeth are overcrowded, you will need to come into our Orland Park dental office about a week before receiving braces so we can place spacers between your molars and make room for the orthodontic bands.

Bonding Appointment

Once there is enough space between your molars, your doctor will bond the brackets to the fronts or backs of your teeth and place the archwire and bands.

Adjustments

Our expert dentists will schedule a dental appointment every 3 months of your braces journey. This allows us to conduct necessary adjustments and review your progress.

Debonding Appointment

Once your teeth have reached their proper position, your doctor can remove the brackets and take impressions for an orthodontic retainer.

Long-Term Checkup

We generally recommend you schedule an appointment about 18 months after the end of treatment so we can check that your teeth are staying in the proper place.
Our team will provide detailed instructions regarding brushing, flossing, and every other aspect of braces care.

We Are Here  to Fix Urgent Issues

Any patient who has braces placed with us can rely on our dental team to resolve urgent issues. For example, if you suffer from a snapped wire, simply give us a call and we will get you into our Orland Park office as soon as possible for a repair.

A straighter smile not only enhances the appearance of your grin, but can also protect your oral health. Crooked teeth can make it difficult to properly brush, leading to cavities and decay. A misaligned bite can also cause pain in the jaw, leading to temporomandibular joint disorder, or TMD.

Frequently Asked Questions About Braces

Why do I have to wear a retainer when I am done with orthodontic treatment?

A retainer is worn at night to ensure that your teeth do not shift out of place. This helps you to maintain your straightened smile for years to come.

I am an adult. Is there an age limit for braces?

No. It is never too late to straighten your smile. Braces are a tried and trusted orthodontic solution for both children and adults.

I don't want traditional braces, but I was told I don't qualify for Invisalign. Why?

Invisalign is best for patients with mild to moderate orthodontic issues. If you have been told braces are a better option for you, it may be because your case is more complex and cannot be resolved with aligner trays. If you are concerned about the appearance of braces, ceramic braces may offer a more discreet option.
