Gum Disease

Gum disease can be painful. It can also lead to a series of other serious oral health issues, like deep infections and even tooth loss.

Gum disease treatment at Premier Dental & Implant Center can ease bleeding, swelling, and more to preserve your oral health and function.

Our skilled dental team in Orland Park, IL, provides effective treatment to resolve and prevent gum disease for healthier, happier smiles.

What Is Gum Disease?

Gum disease occurs when plaque and tartar build up on the teeth. When not properly removed, this plaque and tartar can irritate the gums. Gingivitis is the early stage of gum disease. If left untreated, it can lead to periodontitis.

However, early detection and treatment can address the cause, alleviate symptoms, and preserve the health of your teeth, gums, jawbone, and more. This can help prevent the need for more extensive restorative dental work down the line, such as bone grafting, dental implants, and tooth restorations.

We use state-of-the-art digital technology to provide our patients with the most accurate diagnosis and effective treatment for gum disease.

Consultation

During your initial consultation, your dentist will examine your mouth to determine if gum disease is the cause of your symptoms. We offer virtual consultations, but you may require a visit to our dental practice in Orland Park, IL, so your dentist can examine your mouth in person and confirm your diagnosis.

X-Rays

Our dental team will take X-rays to analyze your teeth, gums, and oral structures. We use state-of-the-art digital technology to diagnose and treat our patients.

Treatment

Once your gum disease diagnosis is confirmed, your dentist will develop a treatment plan. One of the most effective treatments for gum disease is scaling and root planing. This treatment allows your dentist to deep-clean below the gum surface to address the cause of your periodontal issues.

A Closer Look at Scaling and Root Planing An Effective Gum Disease Treatment

Scaling and root planing is one of the most reliable treatments for periodontal disease. This is a non-surgical procedure that deep-cleans below the surface of the gums to remove plaque, tartar, and other build-up along the surfaces of the tooth roots. It also smooths the root surfaces to minimize bacteria and build-up. This treatment option can help you prevent the progression of gingivitis and periodontitis.

Preventing Gum Disease

Proper oral hygiene can help prevent periodontal issues like gum disease. Here are some tips to keep your teeth and gums healthy:

Practice Good Oral Hygiene

Brush at least twice a day and floss daily. Brush for two minutes or longer with a soft-bristled brush, and be sure the floss reaches below your gumline.

Visit Your Dentist

Regular visits to our dental practice in Orland Park, IL, can help us catch issues before they become worse. Regular dental cleanings can also help prevent plaque and tartar from building up on your teeth and irritating your gums.

Don't Use Tobacco

Tobacco use can increase your risk of periodontal disease, tooth loss, infections, and more. It is best for your oral health and overall health to stop using tobacco products.

Comprehensive Options For All Your Oral Health Needs

If you're dealing with issues like tooth loss and tooth decay in addition to gum disease, our dentists are here for you. We provide comprehensive restorative dentistry treatment options to help you achieve optimal oral health and function, no matter your needs.

We can even tackle multiple issues at once with full mouth reconstruction, a custom treatment plan that combines services like dental implants, dental crowns, gum disease treatment, and more to streamline your care.

Gum disease treatment is often the first step on the road to better oral health. It allows your dentist to create a healthy foundation for further treatments and to prevent the development of additional issues.

How We Make Your Care Affordable

We understand that the cost of dental treatment can be a major obstacle for patients seeking to improve their oral health. We work with most insurance providers to reduce your costs, and we also accept CareCredit® for those without insurance or for those who need help managing out-of-pocket expenses. Financing allows you to split your costs into affordable monthly payments so you can get the care you need without breaking the bank.

Honestly best dentist I’ve ever been to hands down! I have had fillings, root canals, and crowns and I’m lucky I came to this establishment. Dr. Lagesse is everything you look for in a dentist, friendly, always smiling and outgoing, makes sure your comfortable, taking some extra time to make sure it’s just right, I love how she doesn’t rush it at all, not to mention, the procedures are soo smooth, and she’s good at numbing the perfect spots, she really knows what she’s doing! The staff are amazing! Soo comforting, very friendly, outgoing, and makes for a looked forward to visit! Thank you Premier Dental and Implant Center! The only regret I have is I didn’t find you all sooner! TRY THIS PLACE OUT, YOU WONT REGRET IT!

My 19 year old daughter is a very anxious dental patient. From the moment we came for the consult through the procedure and follow up, she was comfortable and we felt well taken care of. The entire staff goes above and beyond to help you feel comfortable and genuinely cared for! They explain everything that needs to be done instead of surprising you later with regards to time to complete, cost, etc. She needed 3 root canals under anesthesia. The entire dental team rocked!!!!! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!! The office is very modern, clean and beautiful too! It is quite apparent this staff cares about each aspect of the practice!
